Ayurvedic treatment for asthma

Asthma has been a major cause of concern for people of all ages around the world. With the increasing amount of allergens and rising air pollution in cities around the world, it is no less than an ever-growing pandemic. 

Seasonal changes and winters, especially pose a gruesome challenge to people already Suffering from Asthma. Not to forget the continuously growing new cases of Asthma each year in all age groups.  

Here are some facts about Asthma. According to the WHO, each year, roughly 339 million people suffer from asthma.It is a common non-communicable disease among children and most of the deaths occur in older adults. Approximately 7,918 deaths occurred due to asthma in 2016. The major risk factors are inhaled substances and particles that may provoke allergic reactions.

Also, Asthma is a public health concern that is not only limited to just high-income countries. Rather, it is prevalent in all countries, regardless of the level of development. Most asthma-related mortality cases occur in low- and lower-middle-income countries.

If Asthma is left under-diagnosed and under-treated. It creates a considerable burden on individuals and society because of the compromised productivity offered by the individual.

 

Ayurvedic treatment for bronchial asthma 

The main aim is to remove the svasavarodha (obstruction of respiratory passage) by eliminating the Kapha. The process is known as  “Srotosuddhi” is emphasized for removing the bronchial blockage caused by an imbalance in vata.

Also, the Kapha should be liquefied first by massaging medicated oils and saindhava (rock salt) all over the chest. The patients are recommended the drugs and diet, which has the property of kapha vriddikara dravya (mucolysis) so that the obstructing kapha can be easily thrown out.

Further, we do “Shroto Shuddhi” to remove the bronchoconstriction caused by Vata. Finally, we try to balance the Kapha by massaging it with medicated oils and saindhava (rock salt) all over the chest. 

We advise the patient to go for a diet that offers the property of Kapha vriddikara dravya (mucolysis). This will help in removing the Kapha and making it easier for the person to breathe.
